Brian Wolfe, AIA, Senior Principal of Perkowitz+Ruth Architects (P+R) and Executive Vice President of the firm’s operations in China, alongside P+R General Manager David Chang, presented to an audience of retail real estate professionals at the Mall China Conference held April 13-14 in Shenzhen.
Speaking to a capacity crowd of developers, operators and retailers, P+R’s presentation was part of the Trade Fair Professional Program which addressed how to properly position a commercial complex within a developed region.
Wolfe and Chang discussed urban design influences in successful commercial destinations, emphasizing that “it is important for the development to embrace a broader vision, be programmed effectively and efficiently; and be authentic to its surroundings.”
“A successful commercial destination must begin with strong visioning and smart programming,” shared Wolfe. “It is critical to align yourself with a strategic partner that can bring it all together and apply the program through place-making principles.”
Wolfe and Chang cited various examples from international destinations, as well current P+R commercial developments underway in Huzhou, Hangzhou and Dongying, China.
