Perkowitz+Ruth Architects celebrated its 32nd birthday on August 1, 2011. With all offices planning special events throughout the month of August, Long Beach kicked off the festivities with an In-and-Out feast.

Construction recently got underway on two Walmart California locations designed by Perkowitz+Ruth Architects. Groundbreaking ceremonies took place on July 26 at the Hesperia and Victorville sites –both ground up stores located in cities eager to jump-start the local economy with the addition of jobs brought on by the developments.

Community leaders, artists and supporters gathered on June 25 to celebrate the opening of the Manazar Gamboa Community Theater. The Studio One Eleven-designed facility is the newest addition to the Homeland Cultural Center located along the Anaheim Street corridor in Long Beach’s Macarthur Park.

The Long Beach Senior Arts Colony, designed by Studio One Eleven, captured the 2011 Gold Nugget Grand Award in the On the Boards category. The award announcement was made at the 48th-annual Gold Nugget Awards Luncheon held on June 23 in San Francisco.

The opening of three main retailers, including Trader Joe’s, BevMo! and Staples, marks the substantial completion of the Pacific View Mall repositioning effort for north portion of the mall. Pacific View Mall, a popular local shopping destination in Ventura, Calif., has undergone phased improvements since 2009 to help bring the north side of the mall “back to life.”

The four-day event held at Bridge 8 brought together some of the most innovative architects and designers from around the region to discuss design trends and business models.

LONG BEACH (June 3, 2011) – The Oakland, Calif. FoodsCo is the second Perkowitz+Ruth Architects (P+R) grocery store to achieve the Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR certification as announced by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This store, as well as the Yuma, Ariz. Fry’s Food & Drug Store recognized in April, is among only six supermarket projects nationwide to have met the criteria.

Studio One Eleven-designed 4th+Linden captured the 2011 Westside Urban Forum Honor Award in the Mixed Use category, as recently announced by the organization. Winning firms and projects will be honored at a luncheon and awards presentation on June 10 at Casa del Mar in Santa Monica.

The Congress for the New Urbanism honored the best examples of new urbanism at the 2011 Charter Awards lunch held on June 2 during the 19th Annual Congress in Madison, Wisc. Studio One Eleven Senior Principal Alan Pullman, AIA, and Principal Michael Bohn, AIA, were in attendance to accept honorable mention honors for 4th+Linden, which was recognized in the Blocks/Streets/Building category.

LONG BEACH (May 19, 2011) - Perkowitz+Ruth Architects (P+R) has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as an ENERGY STAR service provider. Through this partnership with the EPA’s ENERGY STAR Program, P+R will work to make better decisions about energy efficiency during the design process to reduce the carbon footprint of operating buildings.
